Pine Residence

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This 1,550 sq.ft. home is a a highly customized evolution of our celebrated Case Study 2.0 Butterfly House concept that features the dynamic Ridge Valley Butterfly roof with a twist. The sculpted roofline lifts toward surrounding mountain views, drawing in soft northeast light while responding to local climate and seasonal sun. Curved window frames, playful façade details, and flowing geometric lines create a contemporary mid-century character that moves beyond the standard modern box aesthetic. The home’s compact plan accommodates a 2 bedroom, 2½ bath primary residence paired with a fully integrated 1 bedroom, 1 bath JADU, and can be easily reconfigured into a 1–2 car garage substitution or a combined 3 bedroom, 3½ bath home. This versatility makes the design ideal for SB9 lot splits, enabling the creation of two twin houses that function as a cohesive micro-community.

The structure leverages a simple, cost-efficient footprint that allows the architecture to speak through form, texture, and color while integrating Passive House aligned strategies. Its fully fire-resistant construction, including airtight insulation cavities, high-performance glazing, noncombustible metal and concrete exterior systems, and thoughtful cross-ventilation, ensures resilience alongside energy efficiency. A spacious second-story deck and rear courtyard extend the home outward, creating a seamless indoor–outdoor living environment that celebrates its landscape. The result is a climate-responsive, artfully expressive, and highly adaptable interpretation of the Case Study 2.0 Butterfly House—an innovative contemporary mid-century residence shaped for modern living.
